Meeting Needs

I never thought I'd say this, but I needed a snowstorm, badly.... There are times in life when you know you need something, but you just can't put your finger on what it is. Then there are other times when you know exactly what you need, but you don't even begin to know how to get it. For me, this weekend was a lesson in the latter...

I had been scheduled to work a conference all Friday and Saturday down in Bowling Green. In some ways I was really looking forward to it, one because I would get to catch up with some people I hadn't seen in a long time. However, in other ways I was absolutely dreading it.

Really, my reasons for dreading it had nothing to do with work. I enjoy my job and my co-workers. It was more bad timing than anything. Lately, I have been buried in school work and other responsibilities (which is a trend that looks like it will persist until May...), and over the past couple of weeks it has really begun to wear on me. There has been this overwhelming feeling that in order to get everything done I will have to become some sort of insomniac hermit who locks himself away and works all night and all day without sleep. Irrational? Probably, but I needed a break...and I didn't know how I would ever get one.

Then came the snow...

We actually went down to Bowling Green a day early to beat the weather, hoping it wouldn't be as bad as predicted. When it became clear that the roads would soon become treacherous for those traveling there from across the state, the conference was canceled. It didn't fully hit me until I returned home Friday afternoon that this was the break I needed.

Not only was I able to catch up on school work this weekend, but I was also able to spend some much needed time with friends. It was the first time in several weeks where I was able to go out and enjoy myself without feeling like something was hanging over my head. I finally felt like myself again...

It is so awesome to serve a God who knows your needs and has the power to meet them. Now, I am not claiming that God sent the snow just to help give me a break. I cannot pretend to know the full intentions of God, but this I do know: those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint*.

This weekend I was reminded why I continue to hope in the Lord.
