Twenty seven...are you serious? Twenty seven? I don't know how I feel about that. I don't know why, but twenty seven sounds so much older to me then twenty six. It sounds a little too close to upper-twenties and a little too far away from mid-twenties.
Several years ago there was a dream that was twenty seven. It was marriage, a family, and a full time job. It was stability, routine, and real estate... Today all that remains is the reality of twenty seven. It is a part time job, school, and singleness. It is survival, irregularity, and a rented condo.
So, where did I go wrong? Or did I go wrong?
I think about this more often than I would like to admit. I would like to appear strong and confident. I would like to appear to have more faith in the direction God is leading my life, but I still have my moments of doubt. I still have moments where I place my hope in man-made dreams of grandeur instead of the unshakable promises of God. I thought I would be wiser at twenty seven...
Still, I think about great men I have read about, heroes of the Bible. By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, obeyed, and he and his family were spared their lives. These men obeyed God even when they did not fully understand what was going on. These men obeyed God even when they did not know what the end result would be, and they were blessed for it. These are the kind of men I should imitate, not those chasing the so called "American Dream."
I have no idea what to expect from twenty seven. I can only expect that my God will be faithful in His plans for my life. Past that, I guess I will just have to expect the unexpected.

"'For I know the plans I have for you', declares the Lord" Jeremiah 29:11
As plans I have for my life come and pass unfulfilled, I find great comfort and hope in the above verse. As hard as it sometimes seems to surrender our own hopes and dreams in view of God's own for our lives, I know that we will find the seeming sacrifice so much more than worth it in the end!
my heart hears you. my spirit agrees with you. my soul rejoices in who you are. thank you for your gift of communication and friendship.
Jon,
Welcome to the human race! I believe we all, at times, feel like you described in your post. Praise God, He is bigger than our doubts and unanswered questions! Thank you for being transparent.
