Back Page News

Well, it's been a while since I've posted anything here. As you can imagine, a lot has happened and spun through my head in that amount of time. Here are some brief highlights...

A Much Needed Break
Finally, I should be able to get some rest...I hadn't feel like I've had a reasonable break in a long time. I hadn't quite recovered from Poland before school and work started this semester, and I definitely have felt the effects of that. I apologize to my friends who have had to put up with me this semester. I just haven't been myself. School is out now until February, so that should allow me to catch up on sleep and sanity. I'll still have to work, but that doesn't stress me out nearly as much as school.

A Change of Scenery
My roommate and I just moved into a new condo, and it is wonderful... It really isn't much different than the last place we lived, but it feels a whole lot nicer. Who knew what a difference things like overhead lighting and having actual water pressure in the shower would make? Hopefully this break will give me a chance to get it organized. A lot of my stuff is still in boxes from the move.

Lyrically Speaking
I almost always have song lyrics stuck in my head...However, I am often surprised where those seem to lead. Even some of the most absurd lyrics can spur some interesting thoughts, sometimes out of sheer repulsion and others just at the cleverness of the line. Anyway, I hope to start a series of posts on the topic of lyrics. The plan would be to post some lyrics and just comment on whatever thoughts they bring to mind. I think it could turn out pretty interesting.

Me vs. Christmas
I have had a lot of trouble getting excited about Christmas this year...It doesn't seem like there are many traditions left from my childhood Christmas anymore. I guess is part of growing up, but I miss many of those things. For instance, what ever happened to people putting up Christmas lights?

On the other hand, I have been reading the story Jesus' birth over and over recently, researching for a song I just finished. As I have read, I have been truly amazed by the events that surround Jesus' birth and all that is said about this child. Has ever a baby been born surrounded by so much hope and promise?

Can you imagine...
...a little baby being identified as the savior of the world (by angels and men)?
...a little baby with so much promise that jealous kings would try to kill him (Herod)?
...a little baby with so much promise that men could die in peace just having seen him (Simeon)?

Here you have a fully human baby, who is reliant like all babies, yet even in such weakness displays the power of God. What an amazing reason to celebrate Christmas...

I Like Ellipses...
I just do...

Merry Christmas everyone! :)
