This topic reminds me of when I met my friend Tim. I credit him with the idea, but he said it in a more memorable yet less refined fashion. I still laugh whenever I think about it. I could just repeat what he said, but the engineer (and nerd) left in me are crying to be heard...
A few of my closest friends and I just started an accountability group up on Tuesday. I am so pumped about it. Of course it will be cool to meet with the guys one night a week to hang out, but I am actually really excited about the reading we will be doing the rest of the week (excited about reading? gasp!). Each week we are going read about five chapters of the Bible three times each, so about fifteen chapters a week. I'm almost never excited about reading, but I know that I need this badly.
I've noticed recently (as my friend Tim did many years ago) that there is a thermodynamic/fluid dynamic principle that seems hold true in other areas of life as well. It is the principle of conservation of mass for a control volume at steady state. It states whatever amount of mass goes into a given volume at any given time the same amount goes out over the same amount of time. Basically, what goes in is what comes out.
There are times in my life when I take in a lot of garbage, whether it be from certain things I see on TV, the internet, video games, etc. I've noticed that those also seem to be the times when garbage comes out of my life. On the other hand, I have found that when I put good things into my life (such as the word of God), good things come out of my life, much like the previously mentioned principle states.
Recently, I feel like I've been more on the garbage side of the spectrum, so it will be nice to have a larger flow of goodness coming in regularly again. Who knows, great things could be on the horizon.
